🛣️ About Us: Why We Live This Road

Hi, we’re the Clarks — a family of five full-time RVers chasing rivers, starlight, and sanity across America’s backroads.

We live a life most wouldn’t choose… unless they had to.
Not for escape.
Not for adventure.
But because the world wasn’t built for our son.

đź’™ Parenting Off the Map

One of our children is autistic — but not in the way most people think. His profile is rare and challenging.

So challenging that we’ve been turned away from nearly every therapy program in the U.S. and even some internationally.

After years of searching, testing, and consulting with specialists, we were told that traditional systems couldn’t help him — that we had two options:

  1. Surrender him to the state for lifelong care
  2. Or… homeschool him and create a life that supports his wiring

We chose the road.

🌎 He Needs What Most of Us Avoid

Our son doesn’t thrive with structure. He doesn’t find peace in predictability or progress in routine. What he needs is change — fresh environments, sensory-rich landscapes, and time away from people.

He finds his rhythm in:

  • Boondocking deep in the woods
  • Water — rivers, streams, and lakes where he can stim and settle
  • Silence and space away from crowds and pressure

We move every 2–4 weeks not because we’re wanderers, but because it helps him develop neurologically and emotionally.

🧠 It’s Not Just Him

Our youngest is also neurodivergent — a mystery we’re still untangling. Diagnosed with ADD and ODD, he’s high-energy, creative, and challenging in all the ways that make parenting real. Together, our kids teach us how to slow down, tune in, and throw out every rulebook we once thought mattered.

While our story is unique, we know we’re not alone. If you’re parenting a neurodivergent child who doesn’t fit the usual path — this space is for you too.

🍽 What You’ll Find Here

This blog is a journal, a roadmap, and a collection of lessons from the dirt road.

We write about:

  • đź›» Slow family travel: What it’s like to live simply, move often, and stay long enough to really know a place.
  • 🧠 Neurodiverse road life: The therapy that isn’t therapy, and what it takes to parent outside the system.
  • 🍽 Local food & farm-to-table finds: Because every town has something worth tasting, and food is one of our great joys.
  • 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Our family’s journey: The highs, lows, and miracles that led us to the road — and what it means to build a life that works for our kids.

We don’t have it all figured out. But we do have stories, stumbles, and moments of miracle that might meet you where you are — whether you’re raising a neurodivergent child, craving a different pace of life, or just curious what it means to live on purpose in a world that often forgets how.
